MHS have advanced knowledge of labor support, postpartum support, breastfeeding education, childbirth education, bereavement, birth assisting, and birth business administration skills. A MHS can work as part of a team of birth professionals or run their own business serving birthing clients in the community.
BABES Maternal Health Specialist (MHS) program combines a comprehensive academic curriculum and a clinical preceptorship for a unique program that prepares graduates to work as Maternal Health Specialist and fill the space between doula and midwife. This includes working as birth assistants (midwifery assistants) with out of hospital midwives in a home or birth center setting. In addition to the MHS certification our students graduate with credentials for advanced doula work, neonatal resuscitation, basic life support, peer breastfeeding counselor and bereavement work. These credentials qualify our graduates for a wide range of birth professional careers and sustainable birth business options. For those heading into a career in Midwifery, our graduates are ready for their second and third phase of NARM'S Portfolio Evaluation Process. The MHS program is a new offering a BABES. As the times change so do our programs and delivery systems. Our program is currently being offered as an online-hybrid apprentice model and an online apprentice model. Time Commitment The program is set to be completed as quick as 12 months with a maximum of 2 years. Completion in 12 months requires an average of 10 credits per quarter including the summer session. Program Fees Tuition $1500** plus the cost of required reading material, NRP & BLS. **Payment Plan Tuition: $500 deposit & 4 monthly payments of $400 |

step 2: Online orientation |
All prospective students are required to complete online student orientation.
Orientation takes several hours to complete and does not have to be completed in one setting. The last step of orientation gives you instructions for Step 3 |
step 3: Interview & contracts |
An interview with an HCMI coordinator will be scheduled. This interview will take approximately 30 minutes and will take place over the phone. The MHS enrollment and payment contracts take about 30-60 minutes to complete and must be completed in one setting. Be ready with:

Once you have received your official notice of enrollment you can prepare for the upcoming session.
You will make a educational plan and map out how many classes you will be taking each session. Once you know your classes you can acquire any needed books or materials for class. You may submit an application for preceptor approval and begin your clinical requirements before the term has started. |
