What is the importance of diagnostic testing in midwifery care?
This course includes the physiological changes in pregnancy, disease conditions relating to pregnancy and the reproductive organs, tests to detect physical conditions, fetal diagnosis, maternal metabolic disorders, and postpartum testing. This course is part of our Maternal Health Specialist Program. |
What Does This Course Teach?
This 11-week class will cover the basics of diagnostic lab work and testing during pregnancy and the early postpartum.
Module 1: Lab basics, informed consent, appropriate tubes
Module 2: Prenatal testing, initial labs, and other common tests along with interpretations
Module 3: STI's & common vaginal cultures
Module 4: Genetic screening
Module 5: Urine tests
Module 6: Ultrasounds, NST, & CST
Module 7: Abnormal findings and additional testing
Module 8: Amniotic fluid, ferning, and nitrazine
Module 9: Preterm labor, fetal lung development, and fetal fibronectin
Module 10: Pulse oximetry and hearing screening
Module 11: Postpartum and preconception testing
